This morning began like many others, it is definitely the most difficult time of day for me. I never want to get up and I sleep way too late. It is the biggest change in my routine since Kenny's death--I had always been an early bird before; morning was my favorite time of day. I'd get up as early as 5a.m. on a regular basis. Now an early day is getting up before 9:30a.m. and there aren't many of those. I wake up and instantly know life is different, even on the days I don't sleep in Kenny's room. Sometimes I see Kenny in my sleep and I want to go back to dreamland so badly to see him again. Other times I want to keep my eyes closed as long as possible before the tears start spilling out. This morning was a combination of both. I remember seeing him for a minute but I couldn't hold on to his image and I began to cry before I even opened my eyes. It took awhile to get started> I laid in bed and eventually opened my eyes, looking at the element chart. One of the first things I do everyday is change the element of the day on my phone. At least I've been keeping up with that and at the very least updating the elements on this blog. It's not much but it is a little way to keep Kenny in my day.
Later today, I did some cleaning up under Kenny's bed,,it wasn't as packed as it used to be, but I did find some things I didn't expect. There were:> a couple NERF dart guns > some games and movies that belong to Vincent > old mail > a plastic bag with a smiley face on it that says 'have a nice day'(probably the only reason he kept it) > a mini notebook with some code I don't understand written on it
> a yellow cube with Mario on it that makes beeping sounds when I push on it--it's kind of fun :) >a harmonica he bought at Alcatraz over a year ago-- I know it was meant for someone, I'm trying to remember whom > a smiley antenna ball with a graduation cap > his white gloves from his last ("hippie dippie") Holloween costume > a few fortunes from fortune cookies > some strange paper hexagon with the numbers 1, 2, and 3 written on six individual triangles all jumbled together > a page from an old page a day calendar(12-9-2009) that reads:(in Italian) L'esame di chimica `e molto difficile. It translates to: The chemistry exam is very hard. Further proof of his love of chemistry.> and his very old backpack which will be the random topic for today.

---[ Kenny and his backpack ]---
This backpack is famous in our family. It has really stood the test of time;I have never known of any other that has been used as much and lasted as long. Kenny picked it out at the Gilroy outlet center before he started 1st grade and he still used it until the end of his life. It is a black canvas backpack, about the size for lower elementary grades with the BUGLE BOY logo down the front of it. This backpack went many places with Kenny...it was very well worn in and used at minimum, on a weekly basis for over a dozen years.
In the beginning, it was only a school backpack. It carried a few books and maybe his lunch- sometimes he got to hold a sweatshirt. That was the first couple years of backpack's life. Then he got too small for all the books and notebooks school required so for awhile,,a very l-o-n-g while Kenny took two backpacks to school and BB had a companion. There was a time when BB carried Kenny's p.e. clothes and his other backpack held the books. Eventually Kenny only took one backpack to school but instead of tossing BB aside Kenny started taking him along to his dad's and his friends as the backpack that carried his video game stuff--a very important job. From there BB graduated to the one who took Kenny's clothes on sleepovers and most especially Kenny packed BB with his swimming trunks and towel whenever he would go somewhere to swim! He went with him everywhere--he was along for the ride in Kenny's car all the time. In the end, he was getting worn out on the bottom; too many heavy items-(I think Kenny filled it with rocks from the river once); too many skids along the sidewalk; too many times being stuffed to the limit, but he was a faithful backpack until the end and if you knew Kenny well- then, most likely, you saw the backpack I'm talking about.
That's all for now~
~Until tomorrow.....*sweet dreams*
